A mother of a child with a rare disease recently told us, “Thanks for helping to connect us to family we didn’t know we had.” This was certainly our intention when we set out to establish a place where parents could find emotional support and practical information. By working with our client, and a cross-agency team, we created a dynamic, integrated community that includes a website, Facebook page, live events, and grassroots advocacy. Web and engagement metrics have proven the power of bringing caregivers together and enabling real connection. To put this into context, the online engagement number in the past 6 months has been more than 10 times greater than those generated in the caregiver support group over the past 4 years.
